Ecuadorian president begins three-nation tour

People's Daily Online, September 20, 2007

Ecuador's President Rafael Correa traveled to Argentine capital Buenos Aires on Wednesday, the first stop in a tour that will also take him to Brazil and the United Sates.

In Argentina, Correa will meet with his Argentine counterpart Nestor Kirchner and sign collaboration agreements covering such fields as oil, mining, health, agricultural hygiene, food supplies and space activities.

Correa will then meet Ecuadorians studying at the May Place Mothers University and then travel to Manaos, Brazil to meet his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio da Silva.

On Friday, Correa will fly to the U.S. city of Miami to meet Ecuadorian citizens there. He will host his Saturday morning radio show from the city, then travel to New York to attend the 62nd United Nations General Assembly and the Climate Change Summit.

In New York, he will meet former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and other heads of state.

His trip takes place as Ecuador's political parties are campaigning for Sept. 30 elections of the Constituent Assembly, a body which is expected to rewrite the nation's constitution.
