QUITO, Jan 5 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Ecuadorian government will build this year the greatest infrastructure projects planned in the country’s history, according to a report by Andes, the national news agency.
“We will begin to reap the rewards of three years of our labour. The great projects will become a reality this year,” said Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa in statement to the news agency, referring to hydroelectric, petrochemical and feasibility projects.
We will begin to build this year the Coca-Codo-Sinclair, the country’s largest hydroelectric station, located in Amazonian Napo province. This station will have a 1,500-megawatt power, at a cost of US$1,979 million and will conclude in 2014.
The government has also planned to start the construction logistic projects and minor roads of the Pacific Refinery, a joint project with Venezuela in the coastal Manabi province, with capacity to refine around 300,000 daily barrels of crude oil when it is finished.
They have planned to open in Jan the Santa Rosa airport, in southwestern El Oro province, bordering with Peru, and finish restoring Lago Agrio airport in Nueva Loja, Amazonian Sucumbios province, which borders with Colombia.
Salinas beach resort’s airport, in coastal Santa Elena province, with a reinforced runway, construction walls, navigation equipment, and aeronautical requirements will be ready in Aug.
The important road (made of concrete) between Loja and Cuenca will be opened in mid Feb and the bridge over Napo River, in Bay of Caraquez, another bridge in Esmeraldas province and one in Guayas are planned to be finished this year.

The news last year was that a letter of intent had been signed with China's ExIm to finance the Coca Codo project ... but as usual, lots of hot air and nothing has yet been announced regarding formerly secured financing - no contract has been signed yet. In other words - another needed and wonderful project to remain in a 'wish-list' until financing is secured.
