Ecuador Hopefuls Intensify Campaigns

Quito, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) Presidential candidates are intensifying their campaign activities to get votes in provinces, with just 18 days left to general elections.

President Rafael Correa, who is looking for re-election under a new constitutional framework, is expected to travel to Guaranda city, in Bolivar province, after visiting Guayaquil yesterday.

Besides traveling to popular neighborhoods, Correa is focusing his efforts on spreading achievements made by his government in barely two years in power and reiterating the continuation of the process of changes implemented in the country.

In Guaranda, he is expected to give interviews to radio stations on issues related to the region's political, economic, social situation.

With an over 50 percent backing, according to surveys, Correa seems to be the favorite to win elections of April 26 in the very first round.

Ranking second are former President Lucio Gutierrez, from Sociedad Patriotica Party, and multimillionaire Alvaro Noboa, from the Renovador Institucional Party (PRIAN).

Little more than 10 million electors are expected to cast their cotes to elect their country's president and voce president, as well as Congress members, municipal mayors and provincial prefects, among others.
