Periodico26, October 10, 2007

QUITO.— Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa spoke about the importance of Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s ideas and examples during a ceremony held in the city of Guayaquil to mark the 40th anniversary of his assassination in Bolivia.

“Four decades after his death, the example of the Heroic Guerrilla still resonates through South America, a region in the midst of historical changes,” said Correa, who also spoke about the examples of Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador, countries which have undertaken significant social transformations to the benefit of their peoples.

Correa affirmed that Ecuador is promoting a non-violent people’s revolution that has been overwhelmingly successful using votes, in reference to his party’s recent victory in Constituent Assembly.

The Ecuadorian president also spoke about the need to foster solidarity and love toward human beings, two concepts which defined the Argentine-Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara
