Peru, Ecuador agree to cooperate on climate change, environment issues

QUITO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Peru and Ecuador signed an agreement to better cooperate in protecting natural reserves, fighting climate change and other environment issues, the Ecuadorian Presidency said on Friday.

The agreement, aimed at addressing climate change and environment concerns through technology cooperation, was signed on Thursday by Ecuadorian Environment Minister Marcela Aguinaga and her Peruvian counterpart Antonio Brack.

The agreement would help both countries work together to cope with climate change and better preserve the Amazon Rainforest, Aguinaga said.

The agreement would ensure a coordinated and sustainable management of nature resources in forests and help maintain biodiversity, Ecuadorian government sources said

The deal was signed within the framework of the peace accord signed by the two countries in 1998 in Brasilia after three-year armed clashes.
