Quito, Nov 13 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's Election Council is getting ready on Thursday for the 2009 general elections, expected to be one of the most complex processes in the history of that Andean nation.
Some 5,993 positions are to be decided in those elections, from the presidency of Ecuador to the leaders of parochial committees.
President of the Election Council Omar Simon said that regulations are being set to comply with the deadlines established in the Constitution and call general elections on November 23, 2008.
Ecuadorian soldiers, policemen and people under 18 are voting for the first time and registration delays the process.
The possibility of implementing electronic voting in some territories to speed up the counting is being examined by the Council.
