International Abortionist Organization Says that the New Ecuadorian Constitution is Pro-Abortion

By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman

UNITED STATES, September 25, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As the vote on Ecuador's new Constitution approaches, the nation confronts a decisive question: is the new charter pro-abortion, or not? The document contains various phrases that are difficult to interpret, and Ecuadorians are not in agreement regarding the response. But for the abortionist United Nations Foundation, there is no doubt: the answer is yes.

In an article published in "RH Reality Check," a site founded and financed by the United Nations Foundation, Karim Velasco maintains that there are phrases in the new Constitution of Ecuador that protect the "right" to abortion (http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2008/06/05/ackowledging-s...).

In her article, Velasco points out that the text of the new Constitution "includes an explicit recognition of sexual and reproductive rights," which include the "right" to eliminate the unborn child in the womb of his mother, and says that it would be easier to achieve the legalization of abortion in Latin America with this phrase in its constitutions.

Commenting on examples of "sexual and reproductive rights" in other countries, Velasco says regarding "the decriminalization of abortion in Colombia and the free delivery of emergency contraception in Peru" that "there is no doubt that both decisions do tacitly guarantee and recognize the legitimacy of sexual and reproductive rights," explicitly equating such rights with abortion.

The new Constitution of Ecuador establishes the right of people "to make free, informed, voluntary, and responsible decisions regarding their sexuality and their lives" (Art. 66.9) and "the right to make free, responsible, and informed decisions regarding their reproductive health and life and to decide when and how many children to have" (Art. 66.10).

Velasco also affirms that there are other words contained in this phrase that refer to the abortionists' "sexual and reproductive rights": the reference to the "right" to "decide when and how many children to have."

According to Velasco, this "right" is equivalent to the "reproductive and sexual rights," which guarantee the "right" to abortion.

"Reproductive and/or sexual rights are recognized in their Constitutional texts (although they are not literally stated) by acknowledging the range of rights that inform them, i.e. the right of every person to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so," writes Velasco.

According to Velasco, the inclusion of such phrases in constitutions is useful to "end the debate with conservative parties and movements" who are opposed to the "right" of abortion, and to "protect these rights from internal struggles within political parties or changes of the administration in power."

The United Nations Foundation is a pro-abortion organization created by Ted Turner, the founder of the CNN television network. It has a very close relationship with the United Nations Organization, and helps to finance many of its programs. The organization was established with a grant of one billion dollars, allowing it to spend tens of millions yearly on programs that it favors -- many of them related to population control, one of Turner's favorite causes.
