Cuba Solidarity Event in Ecuador

Quito, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) The 13th National Assembly of the Ecuadorian Solidarity Coordinating Committee with Cuba starts Saturday in the city of Guayaquil, attended by nearly 500 delegates from several provinces of this country.

Vinicio Rojas, member of the organizing committee, stated that everything is ready for the opening session of this important meeting, which will define actions for the 2008-2010 period to strengthen friendship with the Cuban people.

Rojas highlighted the friendship group's labor with the island from the province of Guayas, capital of Guayaquil.

The event will honor Commander Ernesto Che Guevara on occasion of the 80th anniversary of his birth, for his tireless struggle for the freedom of oppressed peoples.

Also included is to recall Sergio Correri, late president of the Cuban Institute of Solidarity with the Peoples, and the 166th anniversary of the birth of General Eloy Alfaro, a friend of Cuba, he said.

Among other points is to request the release of five Cuban anti-imperialist fighters unfairly imprisoned in US jails, reject the US Court of Appeals in Atlanta's last decision, condemn once more the White House policy, demand the end of the economic and financial blockade imposed by United States against the island, and elect the new leadership of the National Solidarity Coordinator, Rojas concluded.

Cuban ambassador to this nation Benigno Perez, national and provincial authorities, as well as representatives of Ecuadorian politics and culture are to attend the meeting.
