Ecuador, Indigenous Wants Govt Meet

Quito, Feb 6 (Prensa Latina) The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) of Ecuador urged President Rafael Correa to dialogue with them to prevent violation of their territories.

CONAIE President Marlon Santi told national TV that the talks would cover such problems as drying rivers and deforestation caused by prospecting and mining.

She stressed that they preferred dialogue before calling for any mobilization or strike and mentioned the government's intent to do away with organizations of regional development.

The indigenous leader mentioned severe environmental and cultural troubles that the government will not solve and announced a march late month to expose their views to the Constituent Assembly.
