Ecuador Econo-Policy Stands on Own

Quito, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador now has an independent economic policy, without external dictates or interference from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, President Rafael Correa affirmed.

When highlighting the economic achievements by his government in the first year of management, Correa referred to an Ecuador with new concepts and vision for 2008.

Addressing thousands of students last night, he announced the restructuring of the public sector, the country's regionalization to decentralize, and rationalization of public finances, as part of the new economic policy.

Correa said neither inflation nor the country risk are the main problems, rather the lack of capacity to generate productive jobs.

Regarding that, he pointed out major steps were made in 2007 to solve that problem, but there is still much to be done.

Under-unemployment, the president warned, is another serious problem, and the government will spare no resources or efforts to improve that condition, he sustained.

The president finally called for youth to join actions to end with lies aimed at hindering the people's Revolution.
