Ecuador President Lambasts Congress

Quito, Nov 15 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa asserted on Thursday that the national Congress is digging its own grave by abolishing the emergency decrees that provide more resources to sectors such as education and health.

The legislators acted from "hate and political calculation," by their approval yesterday to stop works to rebuild roads, schools and hospitals, Correa told national media.

"Our homeland will judge them. They are only burying themselves in shame and indignity," he said.

The president, who advocates dissolving the Legislature once the Constituent Assembly is established on November 29, repeated that it is dying.

Government Minister Gustavo Larrea also criticized the decision, noting that abolition of the emergency decrees is a blow to actions taken by the Executive, but it's the people who are most affected by the deputies' lack of sensitivity, he said.

"We are going to study the legalities, but the government can decree emergency in those sector again," he said
