Ecuador Facing Destabilizing Attempts

Quito, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa warned on Friday of new destabilization attempts by opposition groups that want to hinder and impede the establishment of the National Constituent Assembly.

"The next two months will be extremely tough; a war, which may not be a fight to the death like a violent war, but a war indeed, without limits or scruples, has begun," said Correa during his speech at a commissioning ceremony of Army General Staff officers.

He also said that these groups, "which do not want to lose their privileges, will spare no effort in trying to destabilize the national government," as the oligarchy and economic powers are aware that the people will win in the polls on September 30 to elect all 130 members of the Constituent Assembly.

The president referred to the existence of separatist groups in the country, and called on the Armed Forces to be alert and defend the homeland and the Ecuadorian people who want a change in the nation.
