Ecuador Prez Predicts Win for Assembly

Quito, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said on Monday that the people will back installation of a Constituent Assembly by a wide margin in Sunday s coming referendum.

According to polls, the Assembly is backed by 85 percent of the population, so Correa considers this very solid with remote possibility for losing.

He stressed that "not even the mafia-backed campaign of lies has managed to reverse this trend" in favor of the fully-empowered Constituent Assembly.

The Constituent Assembly "will be definitive to move the country forward," said Correa, who ruled out problems in the approval of the future Constitution.

Decisions are to be adopted by simple majority (50 percent plus one vote) of the 130 members of the Assembly.
