The processes toward the 21st century socialism in Ecuador and Venezuela have similarities and differences, one of the differences, though, is that a coup attempt against President Hugo Chávez in 2002 will not take place in Ecuador, said Pierina Correa, the sister of Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.
"I do not think we will go through it," she said, but feared tension in Ecuador as the date to an upcoming referendum on the establishment of a constituent assembly was approaching. Correa is the leader of Ecuadorian ruling party Alianza País.
As stated by Efe, the potential candidate to the constituent assembly claimed that President Correa, like his Venezuelan counterpart, is encouraging such process upon "peaceful, democratic" foundations. She remembered that Chávez got by this means in 1999 the majority's approval of a new constitution.
In an interview with official TV channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Pierina Correa explained that she was visiting Venezuela this week to know about the constitutional reform.
