Protestors: Ecuador Congress Dissolve!

Quito, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) The first session of Ecuador s Legislature for 2007 began in extreme security Friday, surrounded by thousands of demonstrators demanding the resignation of the deputies and installation of a Constituent Assembly.

Legislators started electing their representatives, who will come from the congressional majority comprised by the PRIAN (Renovador Institucional), PSP (Sociedad Patriotica), social-Christians and democrat-Christian parties.

Outside the old Central Bank facility, provisional headquarters of the deputies, thousands of people began demanding on Friday morning the legislators return home and the setting-up of a Constituent Assembly.

Among the demonstrators are leaders of the People s Democratic Movement, the Quito Electrical Enterprise, the Ethical and Democratic Network Movement and the Humans Right Permanent Association.

Participants shouted slogans in favor of the Constituent Assembly and against the congressional majority trying to stop the political reforms promised by President-elect Rafael Correa..

According to official sources, at least 800 police were mobilized to guard the facility.
